Match Preview: RGV FC Hosts Colorado Springs
June 20, 2023 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Rio Grande Valley FC Toros News Release
EDINBURG, Texas - Rio Grande Valley FC (2-5-7) is set to host Western Conference side Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC (7-7-1) on Wednesday, June 21 at 7:00 p.m. CST. This will be the first meeting of 2023 between the sides.
Rio Grande Valley FC was able to earn a single road point in comeback fashion as Christian Pinzon equalized in the later stages of the match against New Mexico United to make the score 2-2 and send the Toros back to H-E-B Park on a positive note.
Wilmer Andres Cabrera stayed hot as he extended his scoring streak to two consecutive matches with at least one goal after scoring the opening goal of the match at Isotopes Park. The dynamic striker now leads RGV FC with three total goals, a welcomed stat in an offensive unit that is finding its form.
Colorado Springs is coming off a convincing 2-0 win over Las Vegas Lights FC last weekend and are looking to continue their positive trend against an RGV FC side who have yet to shutout an opponent in seven straight matches.
Switchbacks FC benefitted from a pair of Jamaican nationals, Maalique Foster who is all too familiar with the Toros and Romario Williams; the two pieces scored a single goal in the last match to secure the team into a sixth place spot in the West.
Look for a close matchup in the midfield as both sides look to find their speedy front lines on counter motions and through the wings where there is space for individual technique.
