FC Tulsa Unveils Indigenous Peoples' Kit as 2023 Third Kit

FC Tulsa News Release
TULSA - FC Tulsa unveiled its 2023 third kit on Tuesday morning, the Indigenous Peoples' Kit, which the club will debut on July 12 for Indigenous Peoples' Night. The jersey was designed by owner of and designer for Weomepe Designs, Jessica Moore Harjo, Ph.D., as a way to intertwine Indigenous art, sport, and community.
"Art is often overlooked or underestimated in the impact that it can bring to any project," said Harjo. "In communities, art can be healing and it can also bring identity. These things are important, and I am happy to see that Tulsa is embracing art and community more and more, especially Indigenous art and design."
The Indigenous Peoples' kit prominently boasts a striking scissortail pattern, the state bird of Oklahoma and primary feature of FC Tulsa's crest, brought to life by the bold patina, black, and gold that constitute the club's color palette.
"The scissortail symbolizes different things in Indigenous communities," explained Harjo. "To me, I have always loved the scissortail for its playful yet strong demeanor. The forms and shapes on the scissortail are a contemporary design inspired by tribal ribbon work and compositions that are reminiscent of southern plains tribes."
FC Tulsa will suit up in the new jersey on Wednesday, July 12 when the club hosts Miami FC at ONEOK Field on Indigenous Peoples' Night, a night crafted to honor and celebrate those who first inhabited the lands of Oklahoma and continue to contribute to its culture, values, and traditions today.
"This collaboration gives Indigenous art and design a chance to be visible," concluded Harjo. "As a contemporary design, anyone can wear it, and this is one way we can all come together to celebrate, create conversation, and have continued support and respect for Indigenous communities."
The Indigenous Peoples' Kit is available for purchase at the FC Tulsa Team Shop.
