INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (November 21, 2014) - The undefeated Missouri Comets will return to the Independence Events Center to host the Wichita B-52s this Saturday. The nationally televised match will kick off at 7:00 p.m. on ESPN 3. The Missouri Comets lead the MASL Central Division with an overall record of 3-0 after defeating the Dallas Sidekicks and the Chicago Mustangs on the road before earning a come-from-behind victory against longtime rivals the Milwaukee Wave in the Home Opener last Saturday.
The game will feature the first ever matchup between Head Coach Vlatko Andonovski's team and Wichita as the B-52s emerged as a team in August of 2013 and played their very first season in the PASL where they recorded an overall record of 8-9 and placed fourth in the Central Division.
Last year, a Comets player won the scoring title for the third time in history as Leo Gibson finished the season with 76 points. He currently leads the league with a total of 15 points having scored 10 goals and 5 assists. In addition, Gibson was named Man of the Match in the Home Opener before being named to the MASL Team of the Week along with defender Brian Harris.
Wichita stands fifth in the Central Division with a record of 1-2 and are led by former Comets striker Byron Alvarez who has nine points courtesy of seven goals and two assists. Also in the B-52s roster stars former Comets goalkeeper Boris Pardo who has played two games with a total of 34 saves and 13 goals allowed. The B-52s dropped last week's home contest 10-9 against Texas in overtime.
The Comets and Wichita will meet two more times this season when the B-52s return to the Independence Events Center on December 13 before the comets head to the Hartman Arena on February 8. Supporters are encouraged to join the players and coaching staff at the postgame party at the Hooters located on 19850 E Valley View Pkwy, Independence, Missouri.
