Match Preview: Bethlehem Steel FC Travels to Take on Louisville City FC Tonight
July 20, 2019 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Philadelphia Union II News Release
CHESTER, Pa. - Bethlehem Steel FC (5-10-4) faces a tough test this weekend as the club travels to square off with Louisville City FC (8-5-6) at Louisville Slugger Field in Louisville, Ky. tonight at 7:00 p.m. ET. Last time out against LouCity, the two sides fought to a 2-2 draw at Talen Energy Stadium despite a total of three red cards being shown that day. It's going to be an even tougher task this time around, with the Boys in Blue having to take on Louisville at their own ground.
The Boys in Blue played a strong game last week against Red Bulls II, but had trouble finishing the match out with a 4-3 loss as the end result. Now the Steel have to go and take on the defending USL Cup Champions at Louisville Slugger Field, a site where LouCity have posted a 6-2-2 record so far this year. Despite having a strong home record, Louisville has seen a rocky road of late with a 1-1-3 record in their last five. It's going to be difficult, but this could be a big opportunity for Steel FC to pick up much needed points on the road.
The Steel haven't seen LouCity since a little less than two months ago, but this one is going to be a whole new task. With that in mind, Steel FC had a little extra work to do to prepare for this one. When the two sides played last, the Steel lost two key players to red card offenses in the match in Faris and Ben Ofeimu. Louisville City FC also lost Napo Matsoso to a red card in that match. Luke Spencer and Lucky Mkosana got the visitors off to a quick lead, but midfielder Chavany Willis knocked in a brace to level for the Steel and grab a 2-2 draw.
The Boys in Blue square off against back-to-back USL Cup Champions at Louisville Slugger Field tonight, July 20, at 7:00 p.m. ET. Fans can catch all the action on ESPN+.
