Schaumburg Flyers News Release
Schaumburg, IL - Dustin Glant (3-1) tossed a complete game shutout as the Flyers (9-21) defeated the Jackhammers (14-15), 2-0, at Alexian Field on Monday night.
Glant was untouchable in his first complete game of the season. The righty allowed five hits while striking out a season high seven batters.
The Flyers provided Glant with early run support on Monday night. Brandon Newton led off the bottom of the first with a double up the middle. After a Travis Brown groundout that advanced Newton to third, Joey Gomes was able to drive him in on a single up the middle.
Schaumburg struck again in the fourth with a solo home run crushed over the right field wall by Andre Marshall. Those two runs were all the Flyers would need to take down the Jackhammers.
Joliet threatened in the ninth with a Roberto Mena single to start off the frame. Brad Correll then grounded into a fielder's choice, erasing Mena. Glant induced Freddie Thon, who had two of the Jackhammers' five hits, to fly out to left for the second out. Kevin Rios kept the game alive with a hard hit single through the left side, but Glant struck out Jon Nelson to finish his effort off.
Ross Stout (2-3) had a strong showing as well. He threw eight solid innings in which he allowed eight hits, struck out five and allowed just two runs.
Dustin Glant picked up the win while Ross Stout was tagged with the loss.
The Flyers and Jackhammers continue their series at Alexian Field Tuesday night. It's Two for Tuesdays, which means Miller and Pepsi products are just $2.
