Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Alaska Aces have signed defenseman Derick Martin to a one-year contract for the 2008-09 season.

The 27-year-old Martin joined Alaska last February and appeared in 27 games, finishing with a team-best +18 rating and earning ECHL Plus Performer of the Month honors in March. His performance with the Aces eventually resulted in a promotion to Alaska's AHL affiliate in Peoria, where he had two assists and a fighting major while going +2. Martin returned for the Kelly Cup playoffs and tied for the team lead with four goals in nine postseason contests, including the game-winner at 2:34 of the second overtime to beat Idaho in Game Three of an eventual four-game sweep of the defending ECHL champions in Alaska's first round series. The six-foot, 185-pounder, who speaks both English and French, had started the 2007-08 season in France after spending his first three pro campaigns in North America, including ECHL stops in Long Beach, Columbia, and Texas.

Alaska plays host to a pair of pre-season games against the South Carolina Stingrays October 8 and 9 at 7:15 p.m. Both games will be broadcast live on the flagship home of Aces hockey, KFQD 750 AM, with coverage beginning 15 minutes prior to the opening face-off. The Alaska Aces open the 2008-09 regular season at home against Las Vegas October 17 and 18, also at 7:15 p.m.

2008-09 season tickets, starting at just $396 for the full 36-game slate, are on sale throughout the summer at the Alaska Aces offices on the corner of 15th and Gambell. Regular office hours are Monday-Friday between 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
