New Jersey Jackals News Release

Last week's CanAm League Player of the Week, Alfredo Marte, stayed hot on Wednesday, blasting two home runs with 4 RBI in an 12-8 Jackals win which captured a series win against the Quebec Capitales.

The Jackals offense wasted no time on Wednesday, plating 6 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning. The rally was started by leadoff hitter Santiago Chirino who singled, Nelson Ward walked, and Alfredo Marte popped a 3-run homer just over the left field fence to give the Jackals a 3-0 lead with no outs.

Later in the frame, Isaac Wenrich lined a single down the right field line, scoring Conrad Gregor and Chase Smartt.

After being held scoreless by Brendan Butler for 2 innings, the Quebec Capitales scored once in the third inning on a Yordan Manduley RBI single and managed to score at least one run each inning until the 8th. Stayler Hernandez and Rian Kiniry both smashed solo home runs in the 4th to make it 6-3.

The Jackals answered in the bottom of the 4th, getting 2 runs back courtesy of a Chirino single, Nelson Ward double and a Smartt sac fly to right field.

Despite the consistent offense from Quebec, their bullpen could not hold down the New Jersey offense and at some points helped them out. Capitales reliever Alex Fishberg allowed a walk and two crucial wild pitches in the bottom of the sixth along with a Sthervin Matos single and a Gregg Veneklasen double to pad the Jackals lead and make it 10-7.

Marte launched his second homer of the day in the seventh, a solo shot this time, putting his season total at 9, which propelled him into first in the CanAm home run leaderboard.

Every Jackals batter recorded a hit on the day and Dylan Brammer, who is primarily a relief pitcher but started at designated hitter because of several injuries, went 3 for 5 on the day with two singles and a triple. Wenrich was 2 for 4 with a single, double and 3 RBI.

The Jackals will travel to Sussex tomorrow for just one game against the Miners before a 3 game set in Rockland against the Boulders this weekend.
