Marshals Score Big in First Win of the Season

Cincinnati, OH – The Cincinnati Marshals of the National Indoor Football League claimed their first win of the 2005 season Saturday night with a 57-54 victory over the Fayetteville Guard in front of a rowdy home crowd of 4,208 at U.S. Bank Arena. The win improves the Marshals record to 1-2 and gets the team moving on the right track into the bulk of the season.

Running back Rayshawn Askew opened the night with three consecutive touchdowns on his way to five touchdowns on the night. The five touchdowns against the Guard brings Askew's season total to 14, ranking him second in the league.

Guard wide receive, Tuati Wooden, caught a 14 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Shawn Withy-Allen with 1:04 remaining in the game to pull the guard within 3. Marshals receiver Dan Fry sealed the win for the Marshals when he recovered the onside kick at the Guard 10 yard line. The Marshals simply ran out the clock earning their first victory of the inaugural season.

Dietz Developing

Marshals quarterback Brett Dietz continues to improve his performance with each game. In Saturday's victory Dietz was 18-25 for 149 yards, 3 touchdowns, and no interceptions. He also rushed 6 times for 21 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Obert Kicks For Kids

Marshals kicker Jesse Obert continues to help the Free Store Food Bank's Kids Café with each field goal through the Good for 3 program. Bengals kicker Shayne Graham founded the program and has committed to donating $100 for each field goal that Obert kicks throughout the 2005 season. Margaritas Mexican Restaurant and the Cincinnati Marshals Ownership Group have teamed up and agreed to match Graham's donation to the Kids Café. This week Obert earned $200 for the Kids Café with a 47 yard field goal to end the third quarter.

Next Game Preview

The Marshals hit the road for their first road trip as they travel to Beaumont, Texas Saturday to avenge an opening day loss against the Beaumont Drillers. The Drillers currently lead the Pacific East conference with a 4-1 record.
