The Marshals News Release
Cincinnati, OH - The Cincinnati Marshals played well as a team in Saturday's 82-0 rout of the Tennessee Riversharks. Two players, Ray Jackson and Dan Breech, contributed heavily to the win and were awarded NIFL "Player of the Week" honors for their performance.
Running back and former UC Bearcat, Ray Jackson, can add NIFL "Offensive Player of the Week" to his list of awards and records. He carried the ball 12 times for 91 yards Saturday night averaging 7.6 yards per carry and breaking Rayshawn Askew's franchise record of 5.5 yards per carry set against River City in 2005. Jackson set the tone for the night when he scored his first touchdowns on a 16-yard run on the first play of the game. He would go on to score three more touchdowns before the night was over.
"It was a fun game," said Jackson. "Everyone likes to win. We were able to work on a few things and gain momentum before heading that we can hopefully carry through these last few weeks and into the playoffs."
Kicker, Dan Breech, became the first Marshal to pick up league honors twice this season when his solid performance nabbed him "Special Teams Player of the Week" status for the second straight week. He was a perfect 8 for 8 on extra points Saturday and averaged 52.9 yards per kickoff. The Marshals special teams played well as a whole holding the Riversharks to an average of 11.3 yards per return.
"It feels great to be consistent," said Breech. "It definitely helps build your confidence and get you in a groove."
Jackson and Breech's honors mark the fourth and fifth time Marshals players have earned the "Player of the Week" title this year. Receiver Billy Back earned Special Teams honors in week five while Michael Larkin earned the Offensive award in week eight.
The Marshals victory Saturday night moved them into a tie with Osceola for the fourth seed in the Atlantic Conference playoff race with five weeks remaining.
The Marshals have a bye week before hosting Youth Football and Cheerleading Night against Osceola in a key contest on June 10. Osceola and Cincinnati enter the week tied for the fourth playoff spot in the Atlantic Conference.
