
Marshals Extend Winnings Streak by Defeating Strykers

The Texas Marshals jumped out to an early lead and held on late to defeat the Woodlands Strykers 6-5 on Saturday night in The Woodlands. Carlos Vargas made his first start of the season on the mound for the Marshals and picked up the win as he tossed five innings, allowing four runs on six hits with two walks and four strikeouts.
Chase Daughdrill grounded into an RBI fielder's choice in the top of the first inning to score Oliver Christensen and give the Marshals a 1-0 lead.
In the third inning, Alex Gosser came into score on an error by the Stryker's pitcher and Christensen scored his second run of the game on a sac fly by James Sloan to put the Marshals up 3-0.
The Marshals added three more runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 6-0 lead. Christensen hit into a fielder's choice that scored Mason Mantle and Daniel Rushing. Logan Sepanek then hit an RBI single to plate Christensen.
The Strykers answered with four runs in the fifth and one in the eighth to cut the Marshals lead to 6-5. Collin Sherrod entered the ballgame with two outs in the bottom of the eighth and picked up the four-out save. Sherrod allowed just one hit and two walks and struck out two.
With the win, the Marshals improve to 19-32 on the season and 11-13 in the second-half. The Strykers fall to 17-36 overall and 7-16 in the second-half.
The Marshals and Strykers will meet for game two of the two-game series in The Woodlands on Sunday night at 7:05pm.
