San Antonio Stars News Release
SAN ANTONIO - Legendary college basketball coach Marsha Sharp and Silver Stars center Chantelle Anderson will join Andrew Monaco on the sidelines during the 2007 season for eight televised Silver Stars games.
Sharp, who retired after the 2005-06 season as Texas Tech head women's basketball coach, will work six games: June 2 at Seattle, June 5 at Sacramento, June 9 vs. Chicago, July 29 at Seattle, August 4 vs. Los Angeles, and August 15 at Sacramento.
For 24 years as head coach at Texas Tech, Sharp was the reckoning force behind all the success the women's basketball program had. With a career record of 572-189, Sharp saw the Lady Raider program climb to new heights and continued the successful reputation it has had. During Sharp's tenure her teams have made 20 postseason tournament appearances - 18 NCAA and two WNIT, have had 20 20-win seasons and three 30-win seasons. She was twice named the National Coach of the Year and in 2004 her book Tall Enough to Coach hit the shelves nationwide. Along with her Women's Basketball Hall of Fame induction in 2003, Sharp was inducted into the Texas Women's Hall of Fame in 1999 and the Texas Sports Hall of Fame in 2000.
Anderson, the second overall pick in the 2003 WNBA Draft, spent the last two seasons with San Antonio and is rehabilitating an off-season injury. She will join Monaco for the June 23 at Connecticut and July 17 at Los Angeles broadcasts.
Anderson made the move to San Antonio after spending two seasons with Sacramento, obtained by the Silver Stars in exchange for San Antonio's first round pick in the 2006 WNBA Draft, acquired from Connecticut. Last season with the Silver Stars, she appeared in all 34 games, averaging 6.0 points and 2.7 rebounds in 19.7 minutes. A Vanderbilt graduate, Anderson is the Commodore's all-time leading scorer and a 2002 Kodak All-American.
The WNBA celebrates its 11th anniversary in 2007. This year fans can listen to every Silver Stars game on The Ticket 760 AM, while selected games will be televised on KMYS WB-35.
