Morehead City Marlins News Release

Morehead City, N.C. - The Morehead City Marlins trailed 3-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth, but Zach Arnold had other plans for the outcome of the game when he roped a bases clearing double to left-center with the bases loaded in the bottom half of the fourth inning to give the Marlins a 4-3 lead. Morehead City eventually won the ballgame 7-3.

Despite losing the game the Pilots did strike first. Zach Lopes got things started for Peninsula with a one-out triple down the right field line and later scored on a Josh Silver groundout to second base. The Pilots tacked on two more runs in the top half of the second after Scott Burkett led off the inning with a double and was singled in by Brandon Reitano in the very next at bat. Reitano then scored on an RBI single off the bat of Matt Dickason later in the inning to make it a 3-0 ballgame in favor of the Pilots.

Dalton Britt got the Marlins on the board by drawing a bases loaded walk with one out in the home half of the fourth, which allowed McDonald to trot in from third base. Arnold then roped his bases clearing gapper to give the Marlins the 4-3 lead. Chase McDonald added two insurance runs with a two-run blast over the left field wall in the bottom of the fifth and Haynal completed the Marlins scoring when he came home on a RBI single by Ryan Cranmer.

Ben Fuchs was credited with the win tossing five innings, allowing three runs on four hits, while striking out seven. Taylor Thurber kept the opposition in check with three shutout innings of relief and Jonathan Bobea shut the door with a scoreless ninth. Alex Regan suffered the loss for the Pilots in his first start for Peninsula this season. The Marlins are off tomorrow and host Petersburg for a doubleheader on Tuesday at Big Rock Stadium.
