Morehead City Marlins News Release

Morehead City, N.C. - The Morehead City Marlins skid has reached three games as the Edenton Steamers swept the Marlins in a pair of games at historic Hicks Field in Edenton, North Carolina. The Steamers offense was dominant in game one, earning an 11-4 victory. Morehead City played the second game much tougher, but dropped a tough 4-3 decision.

The Marlins struck first in the top half of the first inning in game number one. Ryan Cranmer crushed a home run over the centerfield fence, while Brad Haynal added the second run with a RBI single right back up the middle scoring Ryan Muno. The Steamers responded with some power of their own in the home half of the first on a Trent Miller two-run blast over the left field wall.

Morehead City then retook the lead in the top half of the third on a Haynal sacrifice fly to centerfield, which scored Cranmer from third. However, the Steamers struck back to take a 4-3 lead in the home half of the third. Dom Fratantuono got things started with an RBI double down the right field line. Josh Hampton then contributed with an RBI single of his own, which gave the Steamers the lead in the ballgame.

Rohn Pierce picked up the win for the Steamers, while Justin Taylor suffered the loss for the Marlins. With the doubleheader sweep the Steamers improved to 13-4 on the second half and are just one game behind the Peninsula Pilots in the win column with one less game played. With the loss, the Marlins fell to 9-10 on the second half.

The Morehead City Marlins return to Big Rock Stadium on Saturday night as they host the Peninsula Pilots for the second time in three days. Plenty of tickets are still available as it is Diamond Dig night presented by J.R. Diamond Jewelers. The Marlins will then have the day off on Sunday.
