HANOVER, Mass. (Nov. 4, 2014) - A handful of Boston Breakers remain active during the offseason, including newly acquired forward Morgan Marlborough. Currently playing for Glasgow City in the Scottish Women's Premier League (SWPL), Marlborough has had tremendous success for the five-time SWPL champions.
Sunday, Glasgow City finished off their SWPL season with a 2-1 win over Aberdeen, a match in which Marlborough saw 70 minutes of action. The win capped a 20-1-0 season and saw Glasgow City finish atop the SWPL table, 17 points clear of second-place Rangers.
The season is far from over for Glasgow City. The team plays Nov. 16 in the Scottish Cup final against Spartans, which finished fourth in the SWPL this season.
Before the Scottish Cup, Glasgow City play FC Zurich in the Round of 16 in the UEFA Women's Champions League. The first leg is set for Nov. 9 away, and the second leg is Nov. 12 at Glasgow City's Airdrie's Excelsior Stadium at 7:30 p.m. local time.
Glasgow City reached the Round of 16 after a thrilling, come-from-behind win over Poland's Medyk Konin. After losing, 2-0, in Poland in the first leg, Glasgow City won the return leg, 3-0, in extra time to secure a berth in the Round of 16. Marlborough played 74 minutes in the first leg and all 120 minutes of the second leg in Scotland.
Marlborough will return to the Breakers prior to the start of the 2015 NWSL season. She was acquired on Oct. 27, 2014, in a trade with FC Kansas City, a move that also brought defender Kassey Kallman to Boston.
