Mariners to Host Crystal Palace

The English's Crystal Palace FC is coming to Virginia Beach! The Virginia Beach Mariners will host this prestigious team at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex on July 22nd at 7:30 p.m.

Arriving in Virginia Beach on July 19th for preseason training at the Sportsplex, the match against the Mariners will be one of three match tours on their 2006-07 schedule. Crystal Palace will also play a team to be named at the U.S. Naval Academy and the LA Galaxy teams during the month of July.

"We are privileged to have the opportunity to play this esteemed team", said Mike McCann, Mariners Managing Director. "Their deep history, a wining record, professionalism of players and reputation set them apart from other international teams. This will be an exciting night for Hampton Roads soccer fans".

Crystal Palace Football Club, formed in 1905 in Sydenham Hill, England recently announced the establishment of an Academy and Developmental Club, based in Baltimore, MD that will identify the best of young American and worldwide soccer talent. Players such as Northern Ireland International's Michael Hughes, Hungarian International Goalkeeper Gabor Kiraly and England International's own Andy Johnson bring excitement and skill to the game. McCann further stated, "The Mariners are honored and are looking forward to this match". It is part of our continued commitment to bring first class soccer to our community".
