March 8, 2006 - USL First Division (USL-1) - Virginia Beach Mariners News Release
Virginia Beach, VA- The Virginia Beach Mariners are pleased to announce the signing of Kupono Low. Low, a 25 year old natural left footer is comfortable playing in midfield or defense. He is a quick player with the capability to get forward.
Hailing from Hawaii, he traveled to Ireland in 2005 to become a starting midfielder for Sligo Rovers and was instrumental in the team's promotion from the Irish Eircom League Division 1 to the Premiership after the 2004/2005 campaign. Prior to playing in Ireland, Low played in all senior levels of USL soccer. He started 22 games with the USL-1 Syracuse Salty Dogs in 2004, played with USL-2 California Gold in 2003 and with the Central Coast Roadrunners, a PDL team, in 2000. Low played his college career with Fresno State where he gained numerous honors, most notably being selected to the 2002 PAC-10 All Conference First Team.
"Kupono has established himself as a leader at a very tough level of soccer in the Irish First Division after broad USL experience," said Mike McCann, Managing Director for the Mariners. "Being voted by his peers to the All Irish League One First 11 Team is proof of his leadership and impact on the game. For the 2006 Mariners he brings additional strength to the left side of midfield or defense."
The team welcomes Low and looks forward to his contribution to the 2006 season, which kicks off at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex April 22nd.
