Mariners reorganize administrative team

June 2, 2006 - USL First Division (USL-1) - Virginia Beach Mariners News Release


Virginia Beach (June 2, 2006) - The Virginia Beach Mariners announced today the reorganization of their "front office". Mariner's veteran Melissa Bryant will become the Director of Operations, continuing the management of game day activities. Beginning mid June, Tom Prochilo will serve as Assistant Director of Operations. Tom, a Virginia Beach School Middle School teacher and "soccer dad" who has been with the Mariners since the new ownership took over last year, will handle administrative matters for the summer months.

Marc Dugas joins the Mariners staff as Director of Sales and Business Development. Marc comes to the Mariners with 20 years in the financial services industry and is also a "soccer dad".

Cindy Focke, Marketing and Program Director and "soccer mom" will add Erin McCusker, a recent ODU graduate to her staff as Marketing and Public Relations Assistant. "The marketing opportunities for the Mariners has expanded quickly, stated Focke. Erin will be a welcome asset to my staff as we promote commercial advertisement and activities with the Mariners and Submariners", said Focke.

The remainder of the "administrative team" is already in place with Russell Hutchison, Mariners defensive player and Promotional Director, and Susan Hoffman, Ticket Promotions and Sales Manager. Chad Smith, the new Assistant Promotional Director will manage current and future business accounts. The Mariners will also be adding additional support staff as well as seasonal full and part time interns.

The Mariner's "Intern Program" focuses on community youth. High school students interested in "interning" with the Virginia Beach Mariners should call Cindy Folke at the Mariners office, 757-430-9800.

The "new attitude" Virginia Beach Mariners and PDL Submariners have made great strides in a short period of time. Attendance records have increased from a low of under 200 to over 2,500 per game and growing. Ticket sales have increased by over 100%, community sponsorships over 300%, and youth involvement along with the newly created broadcast "The Soccer Report" which airs daily on Cox Channel 11 reaches out to thousands of households in the community highlighting youth soccer as well as the Mariners and Submariners games and events.
