Mariners Let Game and Series Slip By

August 13, 2014 - Appalachian League (ApL)
Pulaski Mariners News Release

The Pulaski Mariners (27-22) dropped Tuesday's game and the series against the Princeton Rays (29-21) 7-5. Pulaski struck for an early lead, but a long delay led to a big inning off Pulaski starter Daniel Missaki (4-2, 2.57 ERA) which proved to be the difference.

Missaki lasted six-and-two-third innings. He allowed five runs, three earned, on six hits. Missaki also struck out eight.

Gianfranco Wawoe singled with one out in the first inning and would later score on a sacrifice fly by Jay Baum.

Princeton plated their first three runs in the fourth inning. Riley Unroe scored on a bases loaded walk, and Carter Burgess drove home two with a deep double.

The Rays padded the winning margin with four more runs in the seventh inning against Missaki and reliever Ugueth Urbina (1-2, 6.04 ERA). Thomas Milone and Hector Montes both had RBI singles in the frame, and an Estarlyn Morales error led to the final run-all four runs were unearned.

Pulaski struck back with four of their own in the eighth inning. Arby Fields led off the inning with a triple and promptly scored on a single by Wawoe. Wayne Taylor drove home Baum on a right field double, and both Daniel Torres and Taylor scored on a throwing error.

Tuesday's loss dropped the Mariners to one-and-a-half games behind the Danville Braves for the East Division lead. The Rays maintain a half game advantage over Pulaski for the division's second slot.

The Mariners return home tomorrow night for a doubleheader against the Johnson City Cardinals. The first game begins at 6pm and gates open at 5pm.
