
Astros fall to Twins in 4-0 shutout

Elizabethton, TN - The Greeneville Astros (26-25) were defeated, 4-0, by the Elizabethton Twins (30-22) on Wednesday night at Joe O'Brien Field. The Astros, who entered the night in second place in the Appalachian League West, now trail the division-leading Twins by three-and-a-half games.
The initial score for the Twins came in the bottom of the first inning on a Trey Vavra sacrifice fly. Then, in the fourth, Vavra led off with a double and eventually scored on a wild pitch to put the Twins up 2-0.
Two innings later, in the sixth, Vavra scored again on an Alex Real sacrifice fly. Then, Jorge Fernandez scored on a wild pitch to give the Twins a four run lead.
The Twins finished with four runs on eight hits. Meanwhile, the Astros were held scoreless with only two hits.
Twins' starter John Curtiss gave up both Astros' hits but had 10 strikeouts over six innings, without a single walk, as he picked up the win.
The Astros will head back to Elizabethton to face the Twins in game two of their three-game series on Thursday. Game time is scheduled for 7:00pm.
