Mariners draft Micklos

Virginia Beach, VA- The Virginia Beach Mariners are pleased to announce their USL first round draft pick (3rd overall selection) - Nate Micklos from the University of Rochester. Micklos will report to pre season camp with the Mariners March 1st.
Micklos, a record-setting goal scorer for the University of Rochester with 57 goals and 26 assists for 140 points in four seasons, won All-America honors in three consecutive seasons. Micklos was also selected as the University Athletic Association's Player of the Year. Rochester finished their regular season 16-0-0 and set a school record for most victories but finished 16-1 after being eliminated in the second round of the NCAA Division III playoffs.
Micklos played in 16 regular season games in the PDL last year and lead the Indiana Invaders scoring with 6 goals.
Micklos was chosen ESPN Magazine's 2005 College Division Academic All-American of the Year by the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America. Micklos, both a Second Team Academic All-American and a First Team Academic All-American, was later named a First Team Scholar All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
"Nate is a talented and proven goal scorer and we are pleased he will be joining us for the 2006 season," stated Jay Hoffman, Mariners Head Coach.
Micklos graduated from the University of Rochester in December 2005 with a dual degree in political science and history and a minor in philosophy.
