Mariners Designate Chiang for Assignment

JACKSON, TENN. (JUNE 17, 2012) - The Seattle Mariners have made the following roster move that effects the Jackson Generals roster. Last night OF Chih-Hsien Chiang was designated for assignment by the Mariners in order to make room for LHP Olilver Perez on the 40-man roster.

The Mariners have 10 days to add Chiang back to the 40-man roster, trade, release, or outright him to the minor leagues. In order to be outrighted, Chiang must first clear waivers.

Chiang, 24, has split the season between Triple-A Tacoma and the Generals where he has combined to hit .242 (56x231) with 24 runs, 12 doubles, 1 triple, 3 home runs and 25 RBI in 59 games. Chiang was on a 4-game hit streak for Jackson, batting .471 (8x17), with 4 doubles, 8 RBI and 2 runs in those games. The Taiwan native was acquired from Boston on July 31, 2011 in exchange for LHP Erik Bedard and RHP Josh Fields.

The Generals roster stands at 23 active players (2 below the maximum) and 6 disabled.
