Mobile BayBears News Release

The Mobile BayBears closed out the first half of the 2012 Southern League schedule with a 10-0 shutout of the Pensacola Blue Wahoos on Sunday afternoon at Pensacola Bayfront Stadium. The win marks Mobile's 40th of the first half, and the BayBears enter the All-Star break as first half winners in the Southern League South Division, having assured themselves a playoff spot in September.

RHP Chase Anderson returned from the disabled list to make the start for Mobile. Anderson did not allow a run, surrendering just two hits in two innings of work. RHP Derek Eitel earned his sixth win of the year, pitching four scoreless innings after coming on in relief in the third inning. BayBear pitchers combined to limit the Blue Wahoos to just three hits in the shutout victory.

Wladimir Sutil put the BayBears in front with an RBI double in the second inning, and did the same in the fourth inning for his second RBI of the afternoon. Mobile scored eight runs over the first five innings to take an 8-0 advantage. David Nick capped the offensive showcase with a two-run homer, his second of the season, in the top of the eighth inning to give the BayBears a 10-0 lead.

Sunday's game marked the end of the first half in the Southern League, with the 2012 Southern League All-Star game to be played Tuesday, June 19, at Smokies Park. The BayBears will open the second half of the season at home against the Montgomery Biscuits, Thursday, June 21, at 7:05 PM.
