Marietta Storm News Release
The Marietta (Ga.) Storm, one of four new franchises in the World Basketball Association Exposure League (WBA) this season, has set the time and place for its upcoming tryout camp.
The Storm will hold its tryout camp April 24 at the West Cobb YMCA in Acowrth, Ga. from 6-10 p.m. The West Cobb YMCA is located at 1700 Dennis Kemp Lane and along with tryouts for the Storm's roster, there will be tryouts held for the Storm's dance team as well. For more information on the tryouts, contact Lionel Garrett at 404-472-4410.
The Storm are one of four WBA teams that will be holding tryouts in the next two weeks. Along with Marietta, the Franklin (Tenn.) Knights, Florida Flight, and Tupelo (Miss.) Rock & Rollers all have free agent camps scheduled ahead of the WBA's season openers May 14.
The Franklin Knights will be holding a camp Wednesday at the A-Game Sportsplex in Franklin. The camp runs from 8-10 p.m. The Florida Flight, another new team, and the Tupelo Rock & Rollers - who lost in the WBA championship game in 2009 - will both be holding camps April 17. The Flight's tryout will be at the Kissimmee Civic Center from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., while Tupelo's camp will be at the First Presbyterian Church in Tupelo from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The Marietta Storm, one of three franchises in the metro Atlanta area, has scheduled a tryout camp for April 24 as well. Each team's tryout camp isn't the only chance the coaches and management have had to look at prospective players.
The WBA's seven teams attended the league's tryout camp that was held last month in the Atlanta area and each franchise selected two players in a draft held after the tryout camp. All draftees were contacted by their respective teams and invited to pre-season camp to earn an active roster spot.
The WBA starts its seventh season with a full slate of three games May 14 and 15 and concludes its opening weekend with a single game May 16. The Gwinnett (Ga.) Majic open defense of their WBA title May 14 with a home game against the Franklin Knights. In the other two games opening night, Tupelo travels to Marietta to take on the Storm and the Decatur (Ga.) Court Kings playing host to the expansion Jacksonville (Fla.) BlueWaves. All three games are scheduled to get under way at 7 p.m. There are three more games scheduled for May 15, as Decatur heads to Gwinnett, Jacksonville goes to Marietta and the Florida Flight opens its season on the road at Tupelo. The Decatur-Gwinnett game tips off at 6 p.m., with the other two contests set to start at 7. The league's opening weekend closes out with a single 7 p.m. game pitting Florida against the Franklin Knights in Franklin.
