Mississippi RiverKings News Release

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Ryan Marcuz tallied four points, including a hat trick, as the Mississippi RiverKings (20-12-2) bounced back with a 4-2 victory over the Huntsville Havoc (24-7-1) on Saturday afternoon in Huntsville. The win gives the RiverKings four wins in their last five games.

The RiverKings jumped out to a three-goal lead in the first period. Ryan Marcuz tallied a power play goal just over three minutes into the first period to put the RiverKings ahead 1-0. Then, under two minutes later, Marcuz notched his second of the period, jamming the puck past Havoc netminder Adam Courchaine to give the RiveKings a 2-0 lead. Four minutes later, the RiverKings chased Adam Courchaine when Dillon Fox slipped a shot to the back of the net to put the visiting RiverKings up 3-0.

In the second, the RiverKings picked up where the left off in the first. Marcuz took a pass from Tyler Barr and beat Tyler Steel on a breakaway for his third goal of the night as the RiverKings led 4-0.

The Havoc got on the scoreboard midway through the second. John Daniels wristed a puck past from the slot past Brad Barone to cut the RiverKings lead to 4-1. Then, at the 14:33 mark of the middle frame, Zach Carriveau batted a rebound out of midair to the back of the net to bring the Havoc within two going into the third period.

In the third, the RiverKings killed off one penalty and fended off the Havoc's effort with the extra attacker to take the victory 4-2.

Brad Barone (12-8-2) picked up the win after stopping 40 of 42 shots against. Adam Courchaine (13-4-1) took the loss after stopping 2 of 5 shots to begin the game. Tyler Steel did not factor in the decision, stopping 16 of 17 shots against in relief of Courchaine.

The RiverKings converted on one of two power play chances, while Huntsville went scoreless on four.

The RiverKings return to the ice on February 3 and 4 for a weekend series in Peoria against the Rivermen. Catch all of the action at 7:05 p.m. on both nights at Old Style Bar-B-Q, the official away game watch party headquarters of the RiverKings. For more information, visit RiverKings.com.
