AFL I Arena Football League (1987-2008)

Marcum suspended additional game, fined $5,000

February 8, 2006 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I) News Release

NEW YORK - Tampa Bay Storm head coach TIM MARCUM, who was suspended four games and fined $25,000 as a result of a salary-cap violation settlement agreement, has been suspended an additional game without pay, fined an additional $5,000 and must participate in three years of AFL youth football initiatives for violating terms of that agreement, AFL Commissioner DAVID BAKER announced today.

During the first two weeks of the 2006 season, Marcum attended team practices and contacted various Storm personnel, which is in direct contravention of the settlement agreement.

Marcum will miss the Storm's Week 3 game against the Georgia Force on Friday, February 10. He will not be permitted to have any contact with the Storm whatsoever. Marcum will be permitted to return to the Storm on Saturday, February 11.

Marcum's original four-game suspension was split evenly over the 2005 and 2006 seasons. He was also fined $25,000. Marcum will remain on probation through the 2007 season. Greater discipline may be imposed if any additional violations are committed.

The settlement was the result of an investigation into allegations that the Storm violated the AFL's salary cap through unreported payments to players during the 2003 and 2004 seasons.
