AFL I Arena Football League (1987-2008)

Beckett.com AFL Collectible Player of the Week - Week 2

February 8, 2006 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I) News Release

DALLAS (February 8, 2006) --- In an absolutely scorching performance against the expansion Utah Blaze in Week 2, Shaw repeatedly burned the outmanned Utah secondary en route to 11 catches for a franchise-record 208 yards and four touchdowns. For good measure, he also added a 3-yard rushing score as Dallas extinguished the Blaze, 56-53, on Saturday night.

For his integral role in spearheading Dallas' 2-0 start, Shaw has been named the Beckett.com AFL Collectible Player of the Week for Week 2.

Shaw's torrid two-week tear (20 receptions, 320 yards, eight total touchdowns) is somewhat unexpected considering he started the season as a backup to Jason Shelley, Dallas' starting offensive specialist. But when Shelley went down with a calf injury early in the season-opener, Shaw took the opportunity to shine.

For the record, Shaw's been down this road before, catching passes from Desperados QB Clint Dolezel at a record pace. When the two were teammates with the Grand Rapids Rampage in 2001, the duo hooked up 12 times for 172 yards and five touchdowns as Shaw earned MVP honors in ArenaBowl XV.

Now that they're together again, can another ArenaBowl be too far away?

Although Shaw fans have precious few collectibles to choose from, there are options. Our favorite is a Dallas Desperados mini-helmet from Schutt Sports. Pick one up today, and then take it with you the next time the Desperados are in town. Get Shaw to sign it and you'll be in possession of the ultimate Shaw memento.
