Bradenton Marauders News Release
Bradenton FL - The Marauders (38-25, 70-62) kept the Palm Beach Cardinals (41-22, 73-60) from clinching yet again and now sit just three games behind the South Division leaders after a 4-3 win at McKechnie Field on Monday night. RHP Felipe Gonzalez (W, 7-6) retired the first 12 batters he faced, didn't allow a hit until the sixth, and blanked the Cardinals into the 7th to earn the win.
Bradenton finally broke through against Corey Littrell (L, 9-9). The southpaw had flummoxed the Marauders in each of his first three starts, but after adding three more scoreless innings to what became a 26 inning scoreless streak, two runs came across in the fourth. CF Austin Meadows reached on an infield hit and moved to second on an error. Meadows moved to third base on the first of three infield hits by RF Harold Ramirez. 1B Edwin Espinal tapped out to shortstop to cash in Meadows and DH Jin-De Jhang doubled to plate Ramirez.
Bradenton built a 3-0 lead before Palm Beach got on the board in the seventh. Carson Kelly's RBI single chased Gonzalez from a 3-1 game, but RHP Henry Hirsch finished the inning to preserve the lead. RHP Dovydas Neverauskas fired a perfect eighth for the Marauders.
Meadows provided an insurance run with an RBI double in the eighth that loomed large. Luke Voit's two- run homer in the ninth off RHP Montana DuRapau brought Palm Beach within a run with one out, but Mason Katz struck out and Kelly lined out to end the game.
NOTES: The game began at 6:33 p.m. under cloudy skies, 86 degrees, and wind blowing 7 mph from right to left ... Austin Meadows established a new franchise record with 46 multi-hit games ... Gonzalez carried the no-hit bid deeper than any Bradenton starter this season ...
TOMORROW: The Marauders play the finale of a three-game series against the Palm Beach Cardinals at 6:30 p.m. at McKechnie Field. ... RHP Frank Duncan will start for Bradenton and be opposed on the hill by RHP Trey Nielsen ... Live streaming audio will be available online at www.BradentonMarauders.com and on the TuneIn App.
