Manitoba Moose News Release
NEW SEASON, SAME DESALVO: Centre Dan DeSalvo made an impression after signing a professional tryout with the Moose last season when he posted 14 points (5G, 9A) in 17 games. After signing another PTO with Manitoba this week, the Rolling Meadows, IL native picked up where he left off. DeSalvo notched two points (1G, 1A) which gave him a nine game point streak in the AHL going back to last season. DeSalvo was held off the scoresheet on Saturday.
KEEP IT GOING: The longest point streak by a Moose player this season belongs to a defenceman. Kevin Czuczman brought his run to four games with a goal on Friday and an assist on Saturday. Over the streak, Czuczman has six points (1G, 5A) which has him tied for second on the Moose with nine points (2G, 7A) for the season. The London, ON native is tied for 8th in scoring among AHL defencemen.
KICHTON BACK: Brenden Kichton returned to active duty Friday. The Moose 2015-16 leading scorer missed nine games after the season opener. Kichton posted three shots on goal in each of his first two games back this weekend.
HOWDEN MAKES JETS DEBUT: Oakbank, MB native Quinton Howden got into his first action with the Winnipeg Jets over the weekend after being recalled by the NHL club on Saturday. Howden saw 10:23 of ice time, fired two shots on goal and added two hits in his first outing with the Jets. Howden led the Moose with seven goals in 11 games at the time of his call-up.
ROSTER MOVES: Including DeSalvo's PTO and Howden's call to the big club, the Moose roster saw additional shuffling. The Jets re-assigned defenceman Julian Melchiori to the Moose, forward Jiri Fronk was released from his AHL contract and forward Kale Kessy signed a professional tryout. Chase De Leo was recalled by the Jets on Monday.
MOOSE OPEN ROAD SWING The Manitoba Moose saw their four game win streak come to an end as the San Diego Gulls picked up a pair of wins over the Moose to split the teams' season series at 2-2-0-0. Friday, Nov. 11, 2016: Manitoba 2 at San Diego 3 The Gulls built up a 2-0 lead on goals from Jordan Samuels-Thomas and Kevin Roy. Recently signed centre Dan DeSalvo scored late in the second, cutting the lead to one. Brandon Montour restored the Gulls' two goal advantage a minute into the third, but Kevin Czuczman brought the Moose within a 3-2 score with just over three minutes left. Manitoba couldn't find a way to tie the game, seeing their run of four wins come to an end. Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016: Manitoba 3 at San Diego 6 Chase De Leo opened the scoring for the Moose who enjoyed an early surge in Saturday's matchup. The Gulls responded, though, with goals 20 seconds apart to take a 2-1 lead to the second. A special teams-heavy middle frame saw San Diego score shorthanded, on the powerplay and even strength while De Leo picked up his second of the night on the powerplay. Jimmy Lodge brought the Moose back within two early in the third, but Kevin Roy pushed the Gulls lead back to three as the home side took a 6-3 win. [cid:image026.jpg
