Miami Manatees News Release

Macon– The Miami Manatees (18-11-3) seven game winning streak came to a screeching halt Friday night in Macon (14-13-5) as they fell to the Trax 7-2.

The Trax came out flying in the first period, scoring three goals by the 15:07 point in the first period. The Manatees defense had an off-night, allowing Macon to pelt goaltender Sean Weaver in the low-slot. Ryan Rivard scored twice right in front of the net, and David Deeves added another goal near the crease.

Manatees coach Zac Boyer was ejected from the game when he disagreed with the officiating by throwing a stick onto the ice. Boyer's ejection came with 2:32 left in the first period. The Manatees also lost defenseman Tom Perry to an injury late in the first period. The Manatees went to the locker-room down 3-0.

After Deeves added his second goal in the second period, Manatees Darcy Johnson finally got the Manatees on the board with a power-play goal at 8:44. With a little momentum going the Manatees way, the game opened up a little bit more to start the third period.

The momentum ended in the third period as Deeves stole the puck from Steve Howard as he was coming through the neutral zone. Deeves went in alone and scored a short-handed goal on Weaver to put the Trax up 5-1. Deeves goal was his third of the game.

Deeves also added another goal the same way he scored his third goal, but this time he stole the puck from Mark Cole in the neutral zone for another breakaway score. Miami's Tom Kotsopoulos finished the scoring in the game in an eventual 7-2 loss.

Andy Kollar made 25 saves in his fifth win of the season, while Weaver allowed 7 goals on 26 shots in the loss. The Manatees head to Jacksonville Saturday night before heading home.

The Miami Manatees face off against the Alabama Slammers, Jacksonville Barracudas, Lakeland Loggerheads, Macon Trax, and Orlando Seals in the WHA2's inaugural season. All games are broadcast on www.irn.fm.
