Rockford IceHogs News Release

Rockford, Ill.- The Rockford IceHogs, proud members of the United Hockey League, announced Thursday that the United Hockey League club has signed veteran winger Vince Malts. The Hogs Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Steve Martinson made the announcement, and terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Malts is the fifth returning player from last season for Rockford, a team that was one-game shy of their first ever Colonial Cup Finals appearance. The 6'-3" winger is also the third veteran on the 2005-06 Hogs roster. During Malts' sixth professional season, he accumulated 11g-15a-26pts and tied a career high with 214 penalty minutes while playing out of his natural position at defense. His 11 goals were tied for fifth most among all UHL d-men.

"He's a 6'-3", 225lb forward that was our fastest skater last season," said Martinson. "Were moving him back to his natural position which is right wing. He's a very versatile player that if we need help on defense, we can move Vince back there. He's big and tough, and not only was he our fastest skater, but top shootout player last year."

Malts scored a third of the IceHogs shootout goals last season, firing home five in the extra session. The 04-05 season marked the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania native's first in the UHL after skating in the ECHL for during his first five campaigns.

The Hogs winger appeared in a career high 79 games last year for Rockford and will also bring more toughness to the line-up. Malts had recorded six major penalties last season and had a plus/minus rating of +10.

With Malts signed, Rockford officially has 11 players announced for the upcoming 2005-06 season. The tough winger joins Robin Big Snake, Preston Mizzi, Jason Notermann, Bruce Watson and Chad Woollard up front and defensemen Ryan Carrigan, Matt Gens, Corey Hessler, Nathan Lutz, and Steve Pelletier.
