Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release

DUBUQUE, Iowa-The Dubuque Fighting Saints saved their best for the last. Dubuque struck for three third period goals and erased a two-goal deficit to earn a 3-2 victory over the Indiana Ice Saturday at the Mystique Community Ice Center. Dubuque sent a sold out crowd of 3,148 home happy in the club's final regular season home game thanks to a pair of goals, including the game-winning tally from Seamus Malone.

After a scoreless first period, Indiana used a great individual effort to break the deadlock in the second period. Washington draft pick Brian Pinho cut down the left wing side and skated around Dubuque defenseman Jeff Alderfer. He cut towards the front of the next and fired a shot over the glove of Dubuque netminder Ben Johansson for his 25th goal of the season at 3:25. Aiden Muir and Matt Roy assisted.

Indiana added to its lead early in the game's final frame. Sam Kurker scored his third goal of the weekend only 1:53 into the period. Alexx Privitera fell down and Kurker rushed up ice on a 2-on-1 rush. He elected to shoot, and roofed a shot over Johansson's blocker to make it 2-0 Indiana.

Dubuque finally found the back of the net at the 7:07 mark of the third period. On the powerplay, Shane Eiseman jammed a rebound past Indiana goaltender Jason Pawloski. Keegan Ford shoveled the puck to the front of the goal. Eiserman found it in the slot and beat Pawloski low to make it 2-1 Indiana.

Dubuque took no time to strike again. With the crowd on their side, Malone scored his first of two goals less than a minute after the Eiserman tally. Jacob Benson threw the puck to the front of the net and the shot bounced through the crease. Malone collected the puck from a bad angle and fired a shot that hit the goaltender's skate and deflected in at 7:54.

The Fighting Saints continued to use the momentum gained and notched the game-winning tally at 11:55. Dylan Gambrell fired the puck behind the net to Benson. He made a move from behind to goal to the crease, sliding the puck across to Malone. He stood wide-open on the left wing and fired a shot under the bar and in to make it 3-2 Dubuque.

Johansson and Dubuque's defense stood strong to earn the victory. The Fighting Saints limited Indiana to just 15 shots.

Saturday's game was Dubuque's final contest of the regular season at home. The evening was Fan Appreciation Night presented by American Trust and one lucky fan won $5,000 in American Trust's "The Winning Edge" contest.

Dubuque finishes the 2013-2014 regular season on the road next weekend. The Fighting Saints play at Indiana on Wednesday, visit Youngstown on Friday, and are at Team USA U-17 in Ann Arbor, Michigan on Saturday.
