Madison Mallards News Release
Madison, WI - April 7, 2013. The Mallards unveiled their first ever Community Impact Report today at their annual First Pitch event held at the Warner Park Community Recreation Center. The Community Impact Report outlines investments the Mallards have made to Warner Park as part of their partnership with the City of Madison Parks Department and highlights other positive community partnerships that the Mallards have developed over the past 12 seasons.
"As part of our new lease signed in 2011, the Mallards are obligated to invest $1 million into stadium improvements, which become property of the city upon completion, over the 13 year term of the lease," said Mallards President Vern Stenman. "Well, in typical Mallards fashion, we've already surpassed that obligation as we enter just the third year of our lease. This Community Impact Report exists to memorialize the investments we've made into the ballpark as part of our agreement."
Some of the highlights of the report are below. Please see the attached document for the entire Community Impact Report.
Mallards in the Community
The Mallards have partnered with local companies to offer different programs for youth in Madison. Since 2001 the Mallards have partnered with the South Central Library System to provide free tickets to kids as incentives in reading programs at every library in the system. Nearly 30,000 tickets are distributed each year through the program, which is made possible thanks to the support of Alliant Energy.
Each year, the Mallards partner with area Little Leagues in various ways. From fundraising and clinics, to games at the "Duck Pond", the Mallards are proud to lend a hand to the next generation of ballplayers. The Mallards have worked with over 20 Little Leagues since 2001.
In 2012 the Mallards partnered with Meriter and Physicians Plus to build the Backyard. The 6,000 sq. ft. grass berm seating area is a perfect setting for families to enjoy Mallards games. On top of that, $1 of each ticket sold in the area is donated to YMCA of Dane County, The Boys & Girls Club and the Madison Parks Foundation totaling $7,279 in 2012.

Madison Parks Partnership
In 2008 Kevin Briski was hired as the new Superintendent of the City of Madison Parks Division. When Kevin took over, a new long-term lease was drafted between the Mallards and the City. Kevin also pushed the Mallards to extend their partnership with Madison Parks. The results have been spectacular:
1) The Remarkable Rubber Ducky River Race has raised over $20,000 for the Madison Parks Foundation.
2) Madison Parks receives a portion of the revenue for every ticket sold in the Meriter & Physicians Plus Backyard ($2,426 in 2012).
3) There is an annual Play Madison Parks Night at the "Duck Pond" featuring Parks themed trivia and a display of Madison Parks construction vehicles.
4) A movie series will start this summer on the new Zimbrick Honda Video Board on non-game nights that will benefit the Madison Parks Foundation.
5) Madison Parks receives over $20,000 in complimentary advertising annually at the "Duck Pond."
Host Families
Over 25 families in Madison volunteer to take Mallards players into their homes for the summer. These families become more than just housing for the players, they become part of the Mallards family. Relationships that started in 2001 between host families and their players still stand today. Players call their host moms on Mother's Days, send wedding invites, and give updates on their careers.
Continual Investment
In 2013 the Mallards are continuing to improve the "Duck Pond." The Zimbrick Honda Video Board will be installed for this season. This new video board will be four times larger than the previous video board and will dramatically improve the fan experience. The Mallards have also added new TRICOR/West Bend Club Four-Top Tables. These private tables are located right behind home plate and have spinning stadium seats. These tickets are being sold on a per season basis and include food, beverage, wait service and more.
The Mallards will host their season opener against the Eau Claire Express on May 29th at 7:05 pm at the "Duck Pond." Single-game tickets will go on sale April 27th.
The Madison Mallards are part of the 16-team Northwoods League. The Northwoods League has more teams, plays more games, and draws more fans than any other Summer Collegiate Baseball League in North America. In 2013, the Northwoods League will celebrate its 20th season.
