Mallards Sign Pair of Talented Freshman

Madison, Wis. - The Madison Mallards have announced the signing of freshman infielders Peter Alonso from the University of Florida and Joe Dudek from the University of North Carolina.

Alonso, a 6'2", 225-pounder from Tampa, Florida will join the Mallards after his first season with the Gators. He is currently batting .237 with one home run in nine RBIs. He has appeared in 28 games, including 27 starts.

Alonso was a second-team Preseason All-American and was named to the Florida All-Region First Team by Rawlings/Perfect Game prior to his senior season at Plant High School in Tampa, Florida. He hit .387 as a senior, with 24 runs scored, 22 RBIs, nine doubles and seven home runs. In his career he hit .460 with 99 RBIs, 36 doubles and 17 home runs. Alonso received the 2013 Wade Boggs Athletic Achievement Award, based upon outstanding athletic skills, exceptional academic achievement, good sportsmanship and exemplary conduct.

Dudek, 6'1", 201-pound lefty will come to Madison after his freshman season with the Tar Heels. He is currently hitting .232 with a team high three home runs. He has 14 RBIs, a .406 slugging percentage and .981 fielding percentage. He has played in 25 games and started in 22.

Dudek starred at Christian Brothers Academy in Wall Township, New Jersey. He was ranked number 117 in the country and number five in the state of New Jersey by Perfect Game and mentioned as one of 50 "Players to Watch" by Baseball America.

The Mallards host their season opener on Tuesday, May 27th at 7:05 pm when they take on the Kalamazoo Growlers. Mallards single game tickets go on-sale on April 26th at 9:00 am. Tickets will be available by visiting MallardsBaseball.com or calling the Mallards ticket office at 608-246-4277.
