Quad City Mallards News Release
Moline, IL-Quad City Mallards President and General Manager Howard Cornfield today announced the signing of forward Marty Standish. Standish has played the last four seasons with the Oklahoma City Blazers of the Central Hockey League (CHL).
Standish has earned a reputation as one of the most energetic players in all of minor pro hockey. In addition to leading the Blazers in points last season, Standish rang up 144 penalty minutes. He has also earned respect from observers for his willingness to go toe to toe with some of minor league hockey's heavyweights. Standish is also known for his feisty and antagonistic style of play.
The Kelvington, Saskatchewan native has been a member of two championship squads during his hockey career. Standish was a member of the Blazers 2000-01 squad that won the CHL's regular season title and post-season crown. Standish was a key part of the post-season run as he led the Blazers in post-season goals (six) and points (13). Standish also captured the Memorial Cup as a member of the Portland Winterhawks during the 1997-98 season.
The 5'7", 165-pound forward will be counted on to be a gritty leader for the 2004-05 Mallards. Standish joins Jeff Doyle, Drew Otten and Jeff Reynaert on the team's roster for next season.
Standish recorded 281 points (126 goals and 155 assists) in 250 games over four seasons with the Blazers. Standish also rang up 659 penalty minutes during his Blazers career. During his five-year professional career, Standish has appeared in 320 games while scoring 144 goals and adding 176 assists for 320 points.
"Marty is exactly the type of player that we want," said Cornfield. "He brings a big attitude to the ice and will be in the other team's face night after night. We think he'll be a fan favorite because of his intensity. He is absolutely fearless."
The Mallards begin the home portion of their tenth anniversary season on October 30th vs. Kansas City at The MARK of the Quad Cities. Season tickets are available via the Mallards ticket office at (309) 764-7825. For the latest Mallards news and ticket information, visit www.qcmallards.com.
