Moline, IL â The Quad City Mallards enjoyed their return home by racing to a 4-0 lead and cruising to a 6-2 win over the Missouri River Otters, Saturday night at The MARK of the Quad Cities. The Mallards had played 13 of their previous 15 games on the road. The victory leaves Quad City with five wins in its last seven games.
The Mallards (19-12-2) scored twice in a 1:05 span of the second period. C Martin Hlinka backhanded a wraparound shot into the net for his team-leading seventh power play goal of the season. Then RW Jason Sessa redirected a shot by C Patrick Nadeau to make it 2-0. Sessa scored again, his team-leading 22nd goal of the season, just 1:11 into the second period for a 3-0 lead. C Jeff Williams' breakaway goal made it 4-0 before Missouri (8-23-4) got on the board late in the second.
C Jon Francisco one-timed a feed from F Lanny Gare early in the third. D Dylan Mills knocked in a rebound for a 6-1 advantage before Colin Embley scored his second of the game for Missouri in the game's final minute. G Jeff Reynaert (24 saves) was the winning goaltender. The Mallards peppered River Otters G Brian Regan with 42 shots on goal. Sessa added an assist on Hlinka's goal for a three-point night.
The Mallards host the Rockford IceHogs Sunday at 4:00 p.m. on Iowa Wireless Family Fun-Day Sunday featuring Scooby Doo and Shaggy. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. for the movie "Freaky Friday" showing on the big screen. Open skating is from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. The first 2,500 kids 15 and under get free Mallards posters, courtesy of Grand Harbor Resort and Waterpark. NOTES: Gare (two assists) has four points (1g, 3a) in two games since returning from the AHL's Hershey Bears on Friday...Nadeau's assist tied him with Mark McFarlane for fifth place on the all-time franchise list with 137 assists in regular season play...Sessa is on pace for 51 goals this season. His career high is 38...Reynaert has won six of his last seven decisions.
