Fort Wayne, Ind. - The Quad City Mallards, proud International Hockey League (IHL) affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, Friday night fell to the host Fort Wayne Komets 3-2 in overtime as David Hukalo scored the sudden death game winner on the power play. The Mallards, who rallied from a 2-0 deficit to force the extra period, did earn one point for the overtime loss.
Hukalo buried a Colin Chaulk feed from the doorstep at 1:17 of overtime.
The Komets had taken a two goal lead into the third period only for the Mallards to deadlock the contest by scoring two goals in 32 seconds. Joel Gasper's tip-in got Quad City on the scoreboard for the first time at 3:22. Just over half a minute later Terry Harrison scored the equalizer on a breakaway.
Kevin Bertram opened the scoring at 16:09 of the first period with a drive from the high slot.
The Komets were on the power play when P.C. Drouin's long range blast extend the gap to 2-0 just one minute and 14 seconds into the second period.
The Mallards return home to take on the Komets tomorrow evening at 7:05 p.m. The first 500 fans ages 12-and under through the doors for tomorrow evening's game will receive free Webkinz plush collectibles.
