Quad City Mallards News Release
MOLINE, IL - Patrick Levesque scored two goals and Jerad Kaufmann made 35 saves as the host Quad City Mallards, proud International Hockey League (IHL) affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, defeated the Bloomington PrairieThunder 3-2 Saturday night in front of 6,737 fans- the Mallards' second largest home crowd of the season.
The Mallards ripped off three straight second period goals after Bill Bagron's tip-in opened the scoring 1:10 into the second. Levesque swooped out from behind the net to even the score at 3:40 of the second. Exactly four minutes later Kyryll Katrych blasted home the tie breaker from the high slot. Levesque struck again on a wraparound at 12:56 to stretch the Quad City lead to 3-1.
Brett Holmberg scored from the right wing circle to bring Bloomington back within one with just 2:45 remaining in the third period, but Kaufmann- who faced down 15 shots in the third period alone- and his teammates held off the the Thunder the rest of the way.
The win sets the stage for a fine finale to Quad City's home slate. Last night's throng saw the Mallards close within five points of Bloomington in the race for the final IHL playoff spot. The Flock will play four more regular season home games as it bids to make a charge to the postseason.
