Port Huron Icehawks News Release

PORT HURON, MI - Mike Kinnie lit the lamp three times for his second hat trick of the season as the Port Huron Icehawks earned a 6-5 victory over the Flint Generals at McMorran Arena Saturday night. The Icehawks held off the Generals, who scored four consecutive goals in the third period to nearly erase a 6-1 deficit.

For the first time in five games, the Icehawks netted the game's first goal when Nick Lindberg scored at 7:51 of the first period. With five minutes to play, Peter Flache gave Port Huron a two-goal advantage when he found the back of the net for the fourth time this season. The Icehawks outshot the Generals 11-10 in the opening period.

Former Icehawk Bryan Smolinski put Flint on the board at the 8:32 mark of the second period to bring the Generals within one. Just two minutes later, however, Kinnie scored his first goal since returning from injury on Wednesday. Derek Patrosso scored his first shorthanded goal of the season to extend his league-best point streak to 11 games to put the Icehawks on top 4-1 to end the second frame. Flint outshot Port Huron 13-8 in the period.

Kinnie added two goals within the first three minutes of the third period, and dozens of hats were thrown to the ice. The Icehawks appeared to be headed for an easy victory when Kinnie's third goal gave Port Huron a 6-1 lead, but the Generals wouldn't go down so easy. Flint scored four goals in a span of five minutes and 21 seconds to climb back to within one goal. Dan Lapointe, Matt Moffat, Steve Silver and Smolinski tallied the third period goals for Flint. The Icehawks were able to shutout the Generals over the final three minutes of the game to hang on for the victory.

Each team put eight shots on goal in the third period. For the game, the Generals outshot the Icehawks 31-27.

Adam Russo stopped 31 of 36 shots for his second victory in as many nights. Rob Nolan took the loss for the Generals, allowing six goals on 27 shots.

Icehawks rookie forward Brandon Naurato was held scoreless for the first time since February 26, snapping his ten-game point streak.
