MOLINE, Ill. (November 19, 2009) - The Quad City Mallards, proud International Hockey League (IHL) affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, today announced that the team has signed defenseman Shaun Fisher and has waived forward Domenic Maiani and defenseman Iain McPhee. Per Mallards team policy no contract terms were disclosed.
Fisher, 30, started what is his ninth pro season with the Bakersfield Condors of the ECHL, for whom he picked up five assists in 11 games. Fisher spent the prior three seasons in the IHL and its predecessor, the United League, with the Flint Generals, Bloomington PrairieThunder and- most recently- Muskegon Lumberjacks. The Detroit native split last year between Bloomington and Muskegon, scoring nine goals and totaling a career high 41 points in 74 games and helping the Lumberjacks to the Turner Cup finals.
Since turning pro, the 5' 11", 170-pound Fisher has skated for 12 teams in the ECHL (Florida, Greenville, Trenton, Texas, Roanoke, Augusta, Phoenix, and Bakersfield) and IHL/UHL (Kalamazoo, Flint, Bloomington and Muskegon). He has recorded 46 goals and 238 points in 492 career games.
McPhee did not record a point in seven games with the Mallards after joining the team late last month. Maiani picked up one assist in five games with the Flock.
The Mallards return to action tomorrow night in Port Huron, where they will face the Icehawks for the first time this season, and then travel to Muskegon Saturday evening to take on the Lumberjacks before returning home to meet the Fort Wayne Komets Sunday afternoon at at 4:00 p.m. The first 1,000 children ages 12-and-under through the doors for Sunday's game will receive free Webkinz.
