Quad City Mallards News Release

A third period comeback sparked the Mallards first win of the year on Thursday night in Bloomington. Chad Woollard and Glenn Detulleo netted goals in the final 5:29 of the third to earn a 3-2 win over the Prairie Thunder. Ray Smegal scored his first pro goal in the win and Jason Tapp stopped 23 shots.

In the opening period, the Mallards outshot Bloomington 11-9, but the Prairie Thunder took a 1-0 edge on the period's only goal as Jason Lawmaster scored for the second time this year.

In the middle frame, the Prairie Thunder opened up a 2-0 edge on an unassisted goal by Brock Becker. Ray Smegal netted his first professional goal just two and a half minutes after Becker's tally to cut the Bloomington lead to one.

In the third, linemates Woollard and Detulleo hooked up to jump start the Mallards comeback. Woollard netted his first goal of 2006-07 with 5:29 left in the game on a feed from Detulleo. Just over two minutes later, Detulleo netted his second goal of the season after shoveling a rebound past Bloomington's Steffan Braunlich.

The Mallards are back on the ice at 6:30 p.m. central time on Saturday in Port Huron. The Hayman's Ace Hardware Pre-Game Show is on Fox Sports Radio AM 1230 beginning at 6:05 p.m. The game can also be seen on the b2 networks via qcmallards.com beginning 10 minutes before face-off.
