Mallards' All-Stars Shine in 5-3 Win over Flint

Moline, IL â The Quad City Mallards scored three straight goals to turn a 2-1 second period deficit into a 4-2 third period lead, as they defeated the Flint Generals, 5-3, Saturday night at The MARK of the Quad Cities. The Mallards earned their third straight home win in front of 7,911 fans, the largest crowd since they beat Flint 6-1 in the Nov. 8 home opener with 8,256 in attendance.
The Mallards (22-13-2) took the lead at 11:46 of the first period when Martin Hlinka threaded a perfect pass to Jeff Williams, who beat the defense at the blue line and broke free to score his 16th goal of the season. Flint (21-15-3) tied it just before intermission when Bobby Reynolds knocked in a rebound on a power play.
The Generals' Jim Duhart snapped a shot past G Jeff Reynaert (23 saves) just 18 seconds into the second period for a 2-1 advantage. But D Matt Libby evened the score two and a half minutes later when his shot went off the glove of G Dan McIntyre (28 saves) into the Flint net. D Tom Menicci scored the go-ahead goal on a power play with a minute left in the period, forcing his way in front of the goal and stuffing the puck into the net.
Early in the third period, Patrick Nadeau stole the puck inside the Flint blue line and fed a wide-open Jason Sessa, who scored his team-high 25th goal of the season for a 4-2 lead. That turned out to be the game-winning goal, as Flint's Martin Woods cut the lead to 4-3 with 4:05 remaining. Then Sessa fed Hlinka in front of the net for the clincher with 1:20 left.
Four of the five Mallards goals were scored by participants in Sunday's UHL All-Star Classic â Williams, Menicci, Sessa, and Hlinka. Sessa and Hlinka each added an assist. The game in Fort Wayne will be played at 6:30 p.m. (Central time) and broadcast on the Internet via a link on the league's website, www.theuhl.com.
