Mallards Add Trio of Rookies to 2006-07 Line-Up

Moline, IL-The Quad City Mallards today announced that the team has agreed to terms with forwards Nigel Hawryliw and Travis Granbois and defenseman Craig Lazaruk. All three players qualify as rookies under the United Hockey League guideline of 60 pro games or less.

Hawryliw was claimed by Quad City from the Muskegon Fury in the UHL Waiver Draft at the conclusion of the 2005-06 regular season. In 26 regular season appearances with the Fury, he recorded two points (both goals) and two penalty minutes. The Muskegon native joined the Mallards prior to the team's playoff series vs. Danbury. Hawryliw was held pointless in the post-season.

Hawryliw made his pro debut as a member of the 2004-05 Muskegon Fury. He recorded four points (two goals and two assists) in 30 games for a Fury team that recorded the league's best record.

The 5-foot-11 forward played a season of college hockey with Davenport University of the American Collegiate Hockey Association. Hawryliw scored 100 points (46 goals and 54 assists) in 43 games during the 2003-04 season.

Lazaruk joins the Mallards after appearing in the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) and ECHL last season. In 27 games with the Pee Dee Cyclones of the SPHL, he recorded five points (all assists) and 34 penalty minutes. During a 32-game stint with the ECHL's Columbia Inferno, the native of Lorette, Manitoba netted five points (two goals and three assists) with 30 penalty minutes. Lazaruk recorded four points (two goals and two assists) in his final seven appearances of the season. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound rearguard appeared in a total of 59 games in his first pro season and recorded a total of 10 points (two goals and eight assists).

Travis Granbois comes to the Quad Cities for his rookie campaign. The 6-foot-1 rookie center spent the 2004-05 season with the Bonnyville Pontiacs of the Alberta Junior Hockey League. He recorded 17 points on six goals and 11 assists during his campaign in Bonnyville.
