Quad City Mallards News Release

Moline, IL-The Quad City Mallards announced today that goaltender Scott Gray and defenseman Marcus Reszka have been signed for the 2006-07 season. The rookie goaltender will make his pro debut this fall after earning East Coast Athletic Conference East (NCAA Division III) Goaltender of the Year honors in 2005-06. Reszka completed a four-year career at St. Mary's University (NCAA Division III) before turning pro.

Gray appeared in 27 games last season as a junior at New England College. He went 17-6-3 with a 2.32 goals against average and a .914 save percentage. In his final 10 collegiate appearances, Gray went 8-1-1 with a 1.89 goals against average and a .921 save percentage. In addition to ECAC East Goaltender of the Year, Gray was also named to the ECAC East First All-Star Team.

Gray played three seasons at New England College where he went 33-11-3. In 52 collegiate appearances, Gray recorded a .917 save percentage and a 2.44 goals against average.

"Scott had a sensational college career," said Mallards President Tim Taylor. "It is obvious from his time at New England College that he has a bright future in pro hockey, and we're happy that he'll be beginning it in the Quad Cities."

Reszka led St. Mary's defensemen in scoring as a senior last season. He recorded 11 points on four goals and seven assists. The Winona, Minnesota native also served as team captain. He capped his collegiate career with 100 appearances and 54 points (17 goals and 37 assists). During his four seasons at St. Mary's, Reszka never missed a game. During his Sophomore and Senior seasons, he was named to the All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference First Team.

As a junior, Reszka was named an alternate captain. In 2003-04, Reszka led St. Mary's blueliners in points (23 on eight goals and 15 assists) as a sophomore. During his freshman season, Reszka led all St. Mary's first-year skaters in points (seven on a goal and six assists) and won the schools' Rookie of the Year Award.

"We've heard a lot of good things about Marcus," said Mallards General Manager and Head Coach Brian Curran. "We hear he's competitive, smart and a good skater. His college coach said that in 15 years, he has never met anyone with as much character as Marcus. Obviously, that goes a long way in the Mallards organization."
