Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release

Oshawa, ON - The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors were in Oshawa this evening for their final match up of the season with the Oshawa Generals. The Majors were looking to build off a strong outing against the London Knights in Mississauga last night. Despite being without Captain Casey Cizikas, who suffered a wrist injury against London, the Majors looked good, defeating the Generals by a score of 4-3.

It was an exciting first period as both teams had plenty of scoring chances. Mississauga controlled the first half of the period and scored the first goal of the game. That goal came at 2:51 off the stick of Jamie Wise. After Brett Flemming made the initial shot, Wise chipped the rebound over Peter Di Salvo's glove and into the net to make it 1-0 Majors. The Majors kept the pressure up and Di Salvo was forced to make several big saves to keep the score 1-0. Michael D'Orazio was the next Major to solve him at 8:52. D'Orazio took a wrist shot from the blue line that appeared to deflect off a Generals player and find its way past Di Salvo, making it 2-0 Majors. David Corrente and Chris DeSousa had the assists. The Generals answered back in the second half of the period. It started with an interference penalty to Mika Partanen at 11:24, giving Oshawa the man advantage. After several scoring chances, Lucas Lessio solved JP Anderson and cut the Majors lead in half, making it 2-1. The teams each had scoring chances later in the period but both goaltenders were up to the challenge. Shots on goal after the first period were 14-13 in favour of Mississauga.

Oshawa began the second period in some penalty trouble, and the Majors took advantage. While Oshawa killed off penalties to Boone Jenner and Tony DeHart to open the period, they could not do the same with a Nicklas Jensen penalty, taken at 5:49. The Majors capitalized when Joe Cramarossa flew down the left wing and beat Di Salvo at 7:28 to give the Majors a 3-1 lead. Brett Flemming and Marc Cantin had the assists. Seconds later, Cramarossa took a tripping penalty that left the Majors shorthanded, but that didn't stop the Majors from adding to their total. At 9:03, Riley Brace raced in and scored a shorthanded goal on Di Salvo to make it 4-1. Dylan DeMelo had the assist. The Majors outshot the Generals in the second period by a large margin, 22-9. That was not the only story of the period however as there were also three fights; Flick and Andreoff at 11:13, DeMelo and Hope at 14:05 and D'Orazio and Clark at 14:06. D'Orazio and Clark each received game misconducts for their actions.

The Majors found themselves in some penalty trouble of their own in the third period. The Generals tried to take advantage and mount a comeback. They started the comeback at 13:31 with a powerplay goal from Christian Thomas. Thomas' 48th goal of the season came while Derek Schoenmakers was in the penalty box, serving a too many men infraction. While Oshawa kept up the pressure, they couldn't pull themselves any closer to the Majors until it was too late. With time expiring, Thomas put a shot on net and Jenner put home the rebound to make it 4-3. The goal came at 19:59 so Oshawa would not have a chance to pull even, and the Majors took home the 4-3 victory. Shots on goal in the third period were 18-7 in favour of the Generals.

JP Anderson got another win in net for Mississauga, making 37 saves on 40 shots. Peter Di Salvo made 39 saves on 43 shots in a losing effort for the Generals. The games three stars were Flemming (3rd), De Hart (2nd) and Brace (1st).

The Majors return home tomorrow to face the Sudbury Wolves. Game time is 2:00 PM and tickets are available as of 12:00 PM at the Hershey Centre box office. The team then hits the road next weekend before returning home on March 18 to face the Brampton Battalion. Game time is 7:30 PM.
