Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release

Belleville, ON- The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors flexed their offensive muscle tonight at the Yardmen Arena, crushing the Bulls 7-2. The win improves Mississauga to 33-10-4-1 on the season; and puts them in good position heading into Friday night's encounter with Barrie.

The Majors took some time adjusting to the larger ice surface in Belleville and found themselves trailing just over two minutes into the game. Alex Aleardi caught the Majors on a line change and fired a shot that just trickled past goaltender JP Anderson to make it 1-0 for the Bulls. Half-way into the period the Majors responded and eventually tied the game courtesy of Devante Smith-Pelly. Smith-Pelly's rocket snap shot beat Bulls netminder Tyson Teichmann to close the period at 1-1.

Smith-Pelly struck again just over eight minutes into the second with his 26th goal of the season to put the Majors ahead 2-1. Two minutes later Dustin Ekelman increased the Majors lead to 3-1. The Bulls went on a power play and capitalized courtesy of Michael Curtis. Anderson made a series of saves but left an opening for Curtis to put it away pulling the Bulls within one at 3-2. Less than a minute remaining in the second, Corey Bureau broke his scoring drought off a beautiful pass from Ekelman to make it 4-2 for the Majors after two.

Mississauga continued their third period shutdown but also provided some cushioning with three goals in the period. Rob Flick scored past the midway point of the period to make it 5-2. Gregg Sutch, who has battled injuries all season scored his first goal of the season two minutes later making it 6-2 for St. Mike's. Seconds later the Bulls left Casey Cizikas wide open and he made Belleville pay, making it 7-2 and that's how it would end.

JP Anderson made 32 saves for the Majors and records the win; while Tyson Teichmann stopped 35 shots in a losing effort. Smith-Pelly and Flick recorded three point nights for Mississauga. While Riley Brace, Dustin Ekelman and Corey Bureau collected two points each in the game for the Majors.

The Majors will return home for a battle between Eastern Conference heavyweights on Friday night against the Barrie Colts at 7:30 p.m. On Sunday the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds come to town for a 2:00 p.m. start. Sunday will also mark "South Asian Heritage Day."
