Majors Take a Tumble in Saginaw

Saginaw, MI - The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors traveled to Saginaw this evening to challenge the Spirit and, unfortunately were handed a 6-1 loss. This came despite a 30-22 shot advantage. As a result, the Majors record shifts to 6-5-1-0 on the season.

The 1st period saw Saginaw's Tomas Zaborsky connect on a power-play at 5:58 to put the Spirit up 1-0. Then, it was all Saginaw in the 2nd period as Patrick Asselin collected two more markers, one at 3:38 and a second at 10:34. Ryan McDonough added another power-play goal at 11:49 to put the home team ahead 4-0.

Saginaw added a third goal on the man-advantage in the 3rd period, this time courtesy of Nigel Williams at 4:34. However, the Majors got on the board at 5:13 when Kris Sparre found the back of the net after receiving passes from Justin Larson and Matt McCready. Unfortunately, Jack Combs added one more goal for Saginaw at 18:40 to round out the scoring.

Chris Carrozzi started in net for the Majors and then made way for Wayne Savage midway through the game; they combined for 16 saves. Ryan Daniels stopped 29 shots for the Spirit.

The Majors power-play was 0 for 8 while Saginaw was 3 for 4. The game's three stars were Asselin (1st), Williams (2nd) and Saginaw's Jordan Szwarz (3rd - 2 assists).

The Majors complete their mini road trip when they visit the Sarnia Sting tomorrow (Sunday) evening at 6:05 p.m. Then, they return home to host the Niagara IceDogs on Friday (November 2) evening at 7:30 p.m.
