Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release

Mississauga, ON- Another chapter in the well known rivalry between the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors and Niagara IceDogs, ended with a 3-0 victory for the Majors tonight at the Hershey Centre. The win moves the Majors to 18-4-2-0 on the season.

The Majors came out stronger in the first period, making up for a poor performance on Wednesday night. The opening ten minutes of the game were dominated by the Majors and they produced several scoring opportunities and moved the puck with ease over their rivals. After producing no power play goals on Wednesday, the Majors had their first opportunity early in the game and Devante Smith-Pelly capitalized tapping the puck into the net to put the Majors ahead 1-0. The strong play continued and the Majors went ahead 2-0 when Tim Billingsley scored his first goal since the '07-'08 season with just under two minutes remaining in the opening twenty minutes.

The second period provided no goals but there was no shortage of drama. IceDogs forward Chris DeSousa crashed into Majors goaltender JP Anderson, tripping him up. A fight broke out between DeSousa and Majors Captain Cameron Gaunce, Gaunce came to the aid of his goaltender, and both men were sent to the box.

The Majors continued to shutdown Niagara in the final period and Riley Brace put the puck into an empty net and make the final 3-0 for the Majors. It was an easier night for Anderson, as Niagara couldn't muster much offensively; he made 20 saves to record his first shutout of the season and tenth win. IceDogs goaltender Mark Visentin had much more to deal with and made 33 saves in a losing effort. Tim Billingsley was named the game's "First Star." Anderson and Visentin round out the top three. The win keeps Mississauga in first place in both the Central Division and Eastern Conference by one point over the Barrie Colts.

The Majors will travel to Sudbury tomorrow to visit the last place Wolves at 7:00 p.m. The Majors Holiday Packs are now available, for more information or to purchase a Holiday Pack contact the Majors office at (905) 502-7788 x.252.
