Majors Open Exhibition with a Tie

Mississauga, ON - The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors traveled to Peterborough this evening to take on the Petes in their first exhibition game of the 2008-09 season. It was a hard-fought contest that saw Mississauga play to a 2-2 tie with the home squad. As a result, the Majors pre-season record moves to 0-0-1.

Peterborough opened up the 1st period, as Jack Walchessen and Liam Heelis each collected a goal to give the home team a 2-0 lead. Then, the Majors responded in the 2nd period, when left-winger Riley Brace connected on the power play at 11:40, to make it 2-1. The assists went to Matt Russo and William Wallen.

Mississauga's Rob Flick got the tying goal in the 3rd period, with help from Ryan Lopes and Brett Flemming, at 12:20 on another power play to end the affair.

Chris Carrozzi and JP Anderson combined to make 32 saves for the Majors.

The Majors will continue their pre-season schedule when they host the Owen Sound Attack this Saturday night at Milton Memorial Arena (77 Thompson Road South, Milton, ON). Game time is at 7 p.m. Then, they host the Petes at 2 p.m. on the following afternoon. This game will take place at Port Credit Memorial Arena (40 Stavebank Road). Tickets will be available for purchase at the door for only $5 each. Majors season ticket holders will be able to attend all Majors home exhibition games free-of-charge.

Mississauga's regular season kicks off on the road when they visit the Barrie Colts on Thursday, September 18 at 7:30 p.m. Their home opener will take place on Friday, October 3 at 7:30 p.m. as they face-off against the Niagara IceDogs.
