Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release

MISSISSAUGA, ON - The hosts of the 2011 MasterCard Memorial Cup, the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors, will be holding their fourth annual Paint the Rink Pink game, presented by your local State Farm Agents, on Friday, February 11 against the Plymouth Whalers. The Whalers hosted their own version, Pink in the Rink, back in October, to help raise funds for breast cancer. Money raised at the event will be donated to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

This years event is once again proudly brought to you by your local State Farm agents; Doug McDonald, Frank Franchino, Chris Turner, John Del Balso, Michelle Cooper, Jenny Rushforth, Will Langille, Alice Fahey and George McFarlane, State FarmR. Chris Turner says, "as local State Farm Agents we are very proud to be a part of an event of this nature that educates and raises funds for Breast Cancer Research and Support. Events like these have a positive effect on the lives of the people in the communities that we work in and are a part of."

The Majors hosted their first Paint the Rink Pink game in 2008, the team's first year in Mississauga. It was an OHL first, as the Majors became the first team to stage a game on ice that had been tinted pink. Since then it has become a tradition where every February, the team wears a pink jersey, the ice is tinted pink, and fans support the event by wearing their 'pink.' Proceeds from jersey sales are donated to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. A portion of every ticket sold to the game is donated as well. In the three years the event has been held, the donation has surpassed $25,000. Details for this year's jersey auction will be announced in the week leading up to the game.

As is tradition, Mississauga Mayor Hazel McCallion will be on hand to take part in the ceremonial puck drop. Mayor McCallion has participated in the pre game ceremony each year the Majors have held the event.

An image of this years Paint the Rink Pink jersey will be released next week while details for the auction will be released the week of the game. Tickets can be purchased at the Hershey Centre box office or by visiting ticketmaster.ca. To bring a group out to the game, call 905-502-7788 x. 1.
