Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release
TORONTO, ON â A quick start helped the London Knights gain control of their game with the host Toronto St. Michael's Majors this afternoon, and they never looked back, skating away with a 4-0 win in front of 1,234 fans. With the victory, the Canadian Hockey League's top-ranked team remains unbeaten at 17-0-1-0 while the Majors fall to 5-9-3-1.
Defenceman Danny Syvret got the Knights on the board only 1:10 into the game in an unassisted effort. Steve Ferry made it 2-0 for the visitors at 8:10 with the lone assist going to Trevor Kell. Then, Rob Schremp made it 3-0 at the 15:42 mark, with the helpers getting credited to Drew Larman and Dylan Hunter.
The Majors can take some consolation in the fact that they held the high-powered Knights squad off the scoresheet in the 2nd period, with the teams tying 8-8 in shots. However, David Bolland put the icing on the cake for the visitors at 9:57 of the final frame with Schremp and Jordan Foreman providing support.
Justin Peters started the game in net for the Majors but was replaced by rookie Wayne Savage after allowing the second Knights goal. However, Peters returned to the game at the start of the 2nd period and played solid during the rest of the contest for Toronto. Savage ended up with 6 saves while Peters had 21. Gerald Coleman responded with 24 for London. The Majors were 0 for 5 on the power-play while the Knights were 0 for 3. The game's three stars were Syvret (1st), Coleman (2nd) and Schremp (3rd).
The Majors are on the road next weekend, visiting the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds on Friday evening (November 12th) at 7:30 pm and the Sudbury Wolves on Sunday night (November 14th) at 6:00 pm. They will return home to entertain the Guelph Storm on Thursday, November 18th at 7:30 pm in a contest that will be available on Rogers television in the Toronto region (channel 10 or 63). All three games will be webcast at www.stmichaelsmajors.com.
